Claude Code — Anthropic's terminal-based coding agent — doesn't have its own separate pricing or a student tier. It's billed through whatever Claude plan (or API account) you already have, and there's no confirmed individual student discount on that underlying plan either.

How Claude Code Is Actually Billed
Claude Code isn't purchased separately — it draws from the same usage budget as your regular Claude account. That means Pro ($20/month, or roughly $17/month effective on annual billing), Max ($100 or $200/month for higher usage), or pay-per-token through the Anthropic API. There is no free-standing Claude Code plan and no Claude-Code-specific student pricing tier on top of that.
The Real Student Paths (Same as Claude Generally)
As covered on our Claude student discount page, Anthropic doesn't publish an individual Claude Pro student discount. The two paths that do exist:
1. Claude for Education. If your university has a Claude for Education agreement, signing in with your school email can unlock premium features at no personal cost — but this depends entirely on your institution opting in, not something you can sign up for solo.
2. GitHub Student Developer Pack. This used to include access to Claude models (including Opus and Sonnet) through GitHub Copilot for verified students. As of March 2026, that access was reduced — Opus and Sonnet were removed from the free student offering, leaving only lighter models like Haiku available through Copilot's Auto mode. If you're relying on this path for serious Claude Code usage, check your current Copilot model access rather than assuming the older, more generous access still applies.

- Ask your university's IT department whether a Claude for Education agreement already exists before assuming you need to pay personally.
- If you're using Claude via GitHub Copilot's student access, verify which models you can currently reach — Opus/Sonnet access for students was reduced in March 2026.
- Compare Claude Code's Pro/Max tiers against your actual usage pattern; the 5-hour rolling usage window means a cheaper tier may be enough if you don't code in long continuous sessions.
- Consider API pay-per-token billing instead of a subscription if your usage is occasional rather than daily.
